Adventures in mess making...

Today I decided it would be a great idea to get off my butt and get started on a birthday cake for Zoe.   I had told her that our original idea of getting pizzas was canned due to cost but that I would happily take her to town and let her pick out a special cake.  "That's ok Mommy, I want you to make it"
Sometimes I am in utter awe of her.  What child doesn't want a nifty store bought cake.  Every single one I know of besides my two do.  What an honor I thought.  So I thought hmms.. perhaps a cupcake style one in the shape of a 9.  Nah ... a sheet cake cut into a 9.  Nope.

I had to go above and beyond insane today.  I decided to try Fondant out for the very first time.

I got it made after making a rather HUGE mess.  Colored too.  My fingers are a pretty yellow stain now.

Happy little balls of sugary Fondant goodness..

I am always mystified on how to stack cakes, fill in the gaps and so on.  I think for once I "kinda" got it.

Rolling it out. FUN... Figuring out HOW to get it up off the counter and over the cake ... NOT FUN!!

but I did it. Yay! ;)
I have to admit by my own stupid fault I did tear it on the side but my handy dandy figure it out coverage is going on so no one needs to know.  I also would like to know HOW to get those folds out.  Smooth "up" towards the top the videos said.  HA!

I felt a sort of sadness when I murdered it with the candles but a cakie without candles is just .. well it's still cake and I'd eat it no problemo!  ;)

and ... last but not least.  You would think that I would have enough brains to put an apron on.  Ahh it wont be that messy.  Right..  right right.. I look like a cocaine addict gone totally wrong.

Now .. the best part was her reaction.  It made all my frustration melt away.

  5. That looks sooooooo good! I don't think I'd ever attempt it though. I have a hard enough time with regular cake!

  6. Thanks everyone!!! She was such a happy camper today!! We don't go all out for birthdays around here, just simple get together with Grandma and Grandpa, some streamers, a few mylars and a few prezzies. But I have to say I am awfully proud of her. She's never asked for a big invite everyone over party. She's a very down to earth and humble little girl. :)
